Visitors to our flying sites are always welcome, however; it would be advisable to contact the club before making the trip. The hobby is very weather dependant and access is sometimes restricted by our landlord’s activities.
Experienced pilots, wishing to join the LMFC, should acquaint themselves with our Rule Book and The Club Consitution before forwarding an application. BMFA membership is a requirement of the LMFC and will be arranged where needed.New members may not fly unsupervised until they have an “A” Certificate. Solo flights can only be undertaken by pilots with this qualification but it is required that a competent club pilot supervises their first flights to familiarise them with site safety procedures.
Novices, wishing to experience model flying for themselves, should contact the club to arrange a training session. The BMFA allows three free flying sessions to enable potential members to decide whether to pursue the hobby and join a club or not. The LMFC will provide free tuition during these sessions, by qualified instructors using the club’s trainer models and “Buddy System” (two transmitters with master/slave control capabilities).
New members, without qualifications, will receive free tuition until they are sufficiently experienced to achieve an “A” Certificate. This test, administered by an LMFC examiner, is to assess a pilot’s flying proficiency and safety awareness. After successfully achieving “A” Certificate status pilots will be deemed competent to fly solo, although help and assistance will always be available.
